Pesticide resistance is the ability of the target pests to nullify pesticide effect or survive after exposure to pesticide. This is a problem not only to the farmers but also to the manufacturers and the consumers of the end products of the agricultural products.
For farmers, high incidence of pesticide resistance can reduce to low crop yield as well as product quality due to insect pest attacks despite of the pesticide application resulting to a negative income. For pesticide manufacturers, pesticide resistance can be a great loss on their part. This is because, they would not be able to sell their products anymore due to it has become ineffective against pests in the field. They spent a huge amount of money for capital just to develop one product for several years and only few growing seasons, their products can no longer be used. Thus, rendering huge losses of capital. For us, consumers, we are affected too because of our perception to buy products of high quality. Because of the low crop yield and high costs of production, farmers will be forced to sell their products at a higher price to gain profits.
Pesticide resistance has more effects than how we imagined it to be. Methods are being employed now to stop the levels of incidence of pesticide resistance. This requires the full cooperation of the farmers, the manufacturers and the government.
